Created collaboratively during Martha Bouziouri’s residency at the Warsaw Biennale, Cooked in the Belly of Stars is a lecture performance exploring representations of migrant and refugee identity. Through ethnography and personal reflection, performers and scholars examine belonging, prejudice and encounters with others.

Project Description
‘Cooked in the Belly of Stars’ is a lecture performance that emerged from a process of collective dramaturgy. The project was realized during Martha Bouziouri’s artistic residency at the Warsaw Biennale.
During an intensive documentary theatre workshop, an international group of performers and theatre scholars co-created a performance that explores representations of migrant and refugee identity through a self-reflexive creative process.
The group used the tools of ethnography (interviews, field notes, participatory observation) to approach/re-approach their Self and the Other in order to discover their own near and distant experiences, prejudices, fears and traumas in a playful and disarming way.
